I have been nominated by Debbie Cole to participate in the five day Art Challenge. It has been so much fun to watch all this wonderful art being posted on Facebook. I am really excited to be a part of it. Thanks - Debbie. Over the years I have had the opportunity to study traditional decorative painting from different countries at their original location. I love them all. The last 20 years have been dedicated to the painting of Zhostovo, Russia. It has been my honor to have traveled the world team teaching with two of Zhostovo’s most acclaimed artists. Since the rose is the most popular and well know subject matter, they are the focus of my first three paintings. In 1974 my husband left his teaching job at the Univ. of MA and accepted a much higher paying job working for an oil company in Houston, TX. I did not want to move - leave all my family and friends to move to that big foreign country. Since we had three children and needed the money, it was a forgone conclusion. To entice me, my husband found a little shop (The Wishing Well) close to our new home offering painting classes. He signed me up. Heidi England was my first painting teacher. She introduced me to a world that has filled my life with joy, learning, traveling, friendships, teaching and painting. Little did he know what he was going to start. Heidi is a true folk artist whose work I will always admire. I believe it should be shared with the world. Therefore, I nominate Heidi England for the five day challenge.
