I have been on three criminal juries in my life (a murder case, a rape case, and a mugging). In EVERY INSTANCE there was ONE juror who had a different opinion from the rest. In every deliberation, we took a straw vote right of the bat, to see where people stood. It was always 11 to 1. The entire deliberation after that was to convince that one (usually foggy-brained) juror that they were wrong. Eventually all three cases had unanimous verdicts. The hold-outs finally gave in because, when pinned down on the facts, they had no ARGUMENT to counter the majority.
