I have been seeing a photo going around for the last couple of days of a little girl who has some issues. I find it incredibly disturbing the way this is being presented to vilify the school. I know some of my friends think this is a gender issue but actually I think it is a legal test and a manipulation of the public. The hate speak against the school has not only been horrendous but it has been vicious and even threatening. But it goes farther than that, it is an attack on a stereotype that does not exist. My take is this, and I am coming at this from 4 generations of teachers in my family. And Three members of my generation are actively involved in education now. Since some of you might need an authority to receive this information I am about to share, well here are my credentials. For the first 7 years after I graduated from college I was a teacher. I worked in the home instruction division of the local public school system for several years working with homebound students, Later I worked for private secular schools as a riding instructor, and I also worked at two Christian Schools before that. Until 2010 I also was a contract Art teacher for homeschool families. So I have pretty much seen all facets of education in this country. There are always non conformists. But here is the thing, when parents put their children in a school be it public or private they are signing a contract with that school, saying they will agree to certain conduct and dress. When you put a child in a school you agree to it. You pay money to do it and sign a contract. In private school you have even stricter obligations. My question is why put a child in a school and agree to abide by the rules then make a big stink about it and say the school is harming the child because suddenly the school is enforcing what the parents or in this case the guardians, have signed a contract to abide by. Someone is trying to make this into a gender issue. It isnt a gender issue, its not an abuse issue, its not a mental health issue. What it is are people who think they are special who want to not play by the same rules every one else plays by, so they are using their child, and even victimizing that child IMO to Make their point. The truth is I havent been in an educational institution where someone hasnt tried this. It always ends the same way. The parents say the school is victimizing their child, but the truth is they think they are above the rules. The guardians knew the moment they went in to enroll the child that they had no intention of following the rules where their child was concerned. In my opinion if they really cared about that child, rather than putting the child through this and traumatizing her more.. they should have found a school that was able to meet the childs needs. That is what school choice is all about.. doing what is best for the child, not abusing a school because they never offered the service or you suddenly decided that the rules should not apply to you. It is crazy the way this is being presented and mind blowing the intelligent people who are falling for it. This is what happens when suddenly everything becomes not a personal issue, but a political issue. Im just venting because Ive seen a lot of innocent schools and teachers harmed by this sort of rebellion. Like we dont already have enough problems in this country. No need to criticize, leave negative comments or bash me or anyone who disagrees. I just thought if you want to make that sort of judgment maybe a little truth was in order.
