I have been using Keiths online study guide of the Gospel according to Daniel (found on our website). This week is Study 11, which has me reading Daniel 7-12, strange and confusing visions of the future. How do I understand them? Keith explains: This apocalyptic literature is often hard to understand with its images & numbers . But usually it is not for the purpose of creating an historical timeline, but rather to paint a BIG PICTURE OF HISTORY. A big picture that contrasts the painful rule of EVIL vs the HOPEFUL rule of God. Ultimately the purpose of apocalyptic literature is to give God’s people HOPE in a suffering-saturated, frustration-filled, painful, confusing, evil world. And that HOPE is that evil is NOT ultimate.
