I have been watching the unfolding of the race relations, racism - TopicsExpress

I have been watching the unfolding of the race relations, racism and race riots in the USA for some 50 years, it seems an endless repetition of the same. At times in the sixties it seemed the whole country was on fire and rioting --- it often resembled a war zone. Now in the long list of tragedies we have Ferguson, a troubling situation to be sure. I am posting this song by Gordon Lightfoot, which is his response to the July, 1967 Detroit Riot (Over the period of five days, 43 people died, of whom 33 were black and 10 white.) I also vividly recall the Watts Riots of 1965 --- I spent the summer of 1966 in LA and you could still see graphic evidence of the riot or the previous summer (The Watts Riots (or Watts Rebellion)[1] was a race riot that took place in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles from August 11 to 17, 1965. The six days of racially-fueled violence and unrest resulted in 34 deaths, 1,032 injuries, 3,438 arrests, and over $40 million in property damage. It was the most severe riot in the citys history until the Los Angeles riots of 1992, and is considered by many to be a key turning point in the African-American Civil Rights Movement.). Does anything ever get any better? Do human-beings ever learn? Im sitting up here in Canada and we have our own riots and we have our own race relationship problems and deep-seated racism.
