I have come to the realization that as a female, it has been harder to work with a female boss than it has been to work for a male boss. I think the reality behind this is the fact that it is easy to fall into a mode of competition when you are involved in a same-gender professional relationship as your superior can view you as a potential threat. On the contrary, in a male-female professional relationship, there does not seem to be such a direct sense of competition which allows for a less hostile work environment. During my 4 years of experience in the field, I have had amazing support from each and everyone of my male bosses; yet, in my first experience with a female, it has been the complete opposite atmosphere. Is this a consequence of gender or is it a struggle of power? I wish I could work on a case study revolving around gender based professional relationships. It would be interesting to see the results... #foodforthought #maybeitsjustme #IamNOTsayingthisalwayshappens
