I have determined that the GMO debate is possibly the most - TopicsExpress

I have determined that the GMO debate is possibly the most complicated topic in existence. While the most public portions of the debate are the most propagandized and empty of substance, there are indeed great benefits as well as legitimate concerns. While there is scant evidence for any serious harm currently, the potential for harm, as well as benefit, exist and span food safety, environmental health, social welfare, ecological health, and economic considerations. Each one of which has its own subset of topics. The empirical evidence is inadequate, and the philosophical arguments are nuanced. No comprehensive and accurate risk assessment or cost/benefit analysis is currently available, nor likely to be developed in the near future. But this is exactly what is needed. Especially in light of the publics baseless sensationalism, as well as corporate suppression of good science. Both of which are almost certainly occurring. And we need good science. This demands a ton of independent research and a proper regulatory system. And something a little bit closer to the precautionary principle. If we have these things in place, theres in an incredible amount of good that can be done through GMOs while minimizing potential risks. So far, the record is looking pretty good. I hope this continues to be the case. To keep it up well need good intentions and a wealth of understanding, and it seems many debating this topic are lacking at least one of those components. I hope this changes.
