I have done my best to harness all of the info that you lovely people gave me about how to best assist those who are out in the cold right now. I think the bulk of the info will end up in the comments below. Basically, there are the following ways to help: For immediate comfort and relief: • Drive around! Distribute socks, hats, gloves, hand warmers, scarves, sweaters, sweatshirts, blankets, emergency blankets (mylar), gift cards (Kroger, restaurants on the bus line), one way or All Day bus passes, hot coffee, cocoa... • Volunteer for or donate to Nashville Rescue Mission, Open Table Nashville, Oasis Center, Room In The Inn (info on those to follow in comments) • Write to the mayor and stress the need for housing for people who cant or wont go to the mission, and for couples and people with pets. (Looking into how to do that) • If nothing else, check around you to make sure your friends and family are all well-cared for. You might be surprised what you dont know. I was!
