I have finished my first rough read through of The Burning Wheel....... its certainly different. Its a game absolutely driven by player character beliefs and relationships; throughout, the plot is shaped by a collaborative story-telling approach along with clever mechanics designed to create tension and reward characterisation and plot development. I shant lie, some of the rules look complicated and the full combat system - for important fights is terrifying, intricate and deadly. Its a game thats going to take some getting used to to say the least. The boast of the games developer is that BW might well change the way you role-play.......... even reading the rules has changed the way I think about role-playing and Ive been involved in the hobby for nearly 35 years. I may be needing some volunteers.
