I have for some reason no really strong feelings about Pandas departure. Id be lying if I said I didnt want him back in Frisco, but I think that SF made the right decision not upping their offer. The only team he was worth what Boston paid him was the Giants, not because he earned the contract he just signed (he didnt), but because he was a component in a championship machine, and I think thats worth paying for. Theres no saying Sandoval wont live up to his new contract, but his career numbers suggest he wont. But hes always had more potential than performance, so he could hit more, and in the first two years with Boston it wouldnt surprise me if he did. I also wouldnt be surprised if he stunk it up in the A.L.; a notorious free-swinger learning new pitchers and parks may not lead to a good start for Panda. I dunno. I wish him well, and hope he blossoms into an Allstar. I dont see it coming. The Giants will shrug, and move on with their nucleus. Theyll sign Chase Headley (or?), lean on Posey, Pence, Bum, welcome back Cain, and move on. They will chase after Yasmany Tomas. Yawn...Thats what is so intimidating about the Giants; theyll kick your ass or they wont, and they wont get very excited about it either way. Just another day at the office.
