I have had a couple people ask why i charge so much for a DOLL..These are not just Dolls .. Normally you dont give them to a child to play with and drag around the house. They are a collectors Item. And in many cases considered ART.. I dont charge nearly enough for what it takes to make a reborn baby doll. Some reborns go for Hundreds of dollars just for a KIT to make a doll if they are a limited kit. Then they are sold completed for Thousands of dollars. The kits cost any where from $14.00 up to hundreds of dollars. Depends on the quality and how many are reproduced. When i say kits I mean ..I get a head and 4 limbs (like in the first picture). That is exactly how I get the my Kits in the mail. There are some KITS that come with everything needed.. if a person is lucky to find the doll they want with a complete Kit that isnt way to expensive to purchase... the rest I have to purchase separately. they dont come with eyes, hair or face other then eye holes a nose and mouth the neck rings or plugs needed for the limbs.. those are not included in most of the kits. They are pretty much colorless.. they have a fleshy look but that is it. I have to purchase the paints to paint them with (genisis heat set paints) They are not cheap.. eyes (hand made glass eyes) REAL HAIR..the cloth JOINTED bodies, the stuffing and every thing else.. I even buy the baby clothes NEW, diapers, socks, onezies.. That they get shipped in. Then there are the countless hours of painting in the details.. if you have never seen a REBORN up close.. the Tiny veins and skin blotches are all painted in. These baby dolls even have fingernails and toenails. Not only are the heads painted but so are the limbs, and back and chest plates if they come with plates. I dont do my dolls with the plates unless some one specifically asks for them. Painting takes me about 2 days from the time I get up in the morning till late evening when I cant see anymore.. The Hair rooting is HAIR BY HAIR..one rooting needle and some hair. I use Tibetan Lamb or MOHAIR. Its is not cheap either. Thats Picture 3 .. it takes several hours per baby to root the hair in. picture 4 is about 6 hours of rooting and Im only half way around the babies head.. and that is one of the preemies I am working on. I am doing 2 at the same time so they match.. so i have spent about 12 hours just on hair today. That head is about 1/2 the size of the bigger dolls. So I hope this answers some questions on why these babies are not cheap. I dont buy the cheaper kits.. 1 I think they are ugly LOL and 2 if i am going to spend this much time on a doll I want it to be a high quality vinyl baby doll. And these are all made with a soft vinyl. My pictures do not catch the detail but some of you have been here and have seen the babies (or purchased one) and have commented on how creepy it is to see the heads because they look so real after I get them painted. They are not so creepy once they are on the bodies LOL...
