I have had a day to reflect on the amazing night that was #GigForGaza. I would like to apologise for my ineloquence last night as I was truly overwhelmed, but hopefully I can express myself better through my writing. AS I drove home in the early hours of this morning I felt a strange calm. The last 5 weeks, in many different countries, the world has erupted with so much trauma, unimaginable terror and consuming sadness. It has been a trying time, not just for me, but for many people who have tried to find sense of the harrowing images and stories we have been bombarded with. But last night, this spin-cycle of unease settled. I was calm. Selfishly, #GigForGaza was an idea I came up with to make myself feel better about my helplessness. I was despondent. I knew many others were feeling helpless and, without repeating what you all know, the response was overwhelming and this little seed manifested into something extraordinary. I could give you a blow-by-blow account and share the dollar amount raised (which I will asap), but my recollections won’t encapsulate or give you a complete picture. We raised money, yes. But WE did much more than that. WE raised hope, WE raised spirits, WE raised awareness, WE raised love, WE raised our voices, WE will help to raise kids and we ROSE UP! You see, we not only did this for Gaza, we did it for Sydney, Australia, the World, for human kind – for ourselves. Each and every person who took part in organising, performing, printing, designing, painting, selling, donating, has received 100fold in return. Goodness perpetuates goodness. Every person will carry this goodness we created together and pass on to another, who will pass on to another and so forth. This is how goodness prevails, how light defeats darkness and humanity prospers. My faith in humanity has been restored. My heart is so full. I am blessed beyond compare and I hope to be able to repay you all in the years ahead. I’m completely confused as to what I ever did to deserve all of this. I thank you. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention some of the key participants. These things dont just happen by magic, but by magic people. (In no particular order).
