I have had many of the same conversations that Matt describes in this article. Our culture doesnt understand what it means to take a covenant seriously. Rachel and I went into this thing almost nine years ago with the understanding that divorce is not and option, and that both of us will be changing constantly throughout the next 50 years of our lives. The more I thought about it though, the more I understand where they are coming from. Saying divorce is not an option to someone makes no sense, in my opinion, to anyone who has not made a covenant between God as well. The root of the problem is selfishness and that must be crushed in order to honor your covenant with God (men-to love her as Christ loved the Church). This idea is dying and that is a shame because this type of marriage is beautiful in every way! (Rant over)
