I have had trouble getting my .308 weatherby vanguard to shoot - TopicsExpress

I have had trouble getting my .308 weatherby vanguard to shoot consistently so this weekend I did 2 things. 1. Replaced the $200 scope with a $70 one that is the same as has given awesome results on my .223 2. Worked up some OCW loads to try and find a load that works especially well with the rifle. Got the scope sighted with factory loads in to a 1 inch group at 100 yards Switched to the 200 yard range and the group was about 4 inches (still better than with previous scope) I got pretty similar results to the factory loads with 2 different IMR4064 loads Switched to 3 loads I had using 150 BTs and H335 powder The base load shot a 2 inch group From there the hotter loads were worse but I think I am onto a winning combination, 2 inches at 200 yards is fine by me, maybe experiment in 1/2 grain increments around that mark. The really great news, H335 is the same powder that has been giving me such good results with the 223 A year since I got my press this is the point where I became a true convert to handloading, now I know with a bit of experimenting I can make my rifle SIGNIFICANTLY outperform factory ammo.
