I have just received a phone call from one of my close friend living in a Middle Eastern country. He asked me if I know about a brother in Bangladesh who is in trouble for nothing but his love and dedication for the sake of Almighty Allah. He could not continue talking to me but started crying like a little baby. He is not a blood relation to the brother who is being subject unjust torture. But still he loves him more than his own brother. It reminds me the love and brotherhood of Muhajereen and Ansaar in the time of Prophet (peace be upon him) who loved each other so much so that ansaars were ready to sacrifice their beloved possessions for the benefit of muhajereen. The simile of their relations were like the relations of one part of the body with another part. If one part of the body feels pain another part cannot sleep out of the similar pain. This inter personal relationships of brotherhood brought their victories over the then tyrannies and super powers. The crying of my friend for his brother in deen gave me the confidence that test and trials of dictators will never be able to stop the victory of those who are dedicated for the sake of Allah and who love each other only for Allah. As long as ansaars are there muhajeroon will be strengthen, with the nasr of Almighty Allah, leading to the day of victory. My dear friends, brothers and sisters, please remember the fact that this world is the place of striving, test and tribulations and the Hereafter is the place of reward or punishment. As our beloved Prophet (peach be upon him) said, “this world is a prison for believers and paradise for deniers of truth (disbelievers)”. Ultimately the believers will be rewarded with Paradise in akhirah and the disbelievers will be punished with Hell. Allaah Almighty tests His beloved slaves with calamities and tribulations, so that the believer may be distinguished from the disbeliever and the truthful may be distinguished from the liar, as Allaah says in the Qura’n: “Do people think that they will be left alone because they say: ‘We believe,’ and will not be tested. And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allaah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allaah knows all that before putting them to test)” [al-‘Ankaboot 29:2-3] Victory and success cannot be achieved except after the tests. And nothing, no power can stop the success and victory of those who adopt patience (sabr) in the course of trials and tribulations. You may thing mojlumeen are helpless and they are always under torture and dhulm. In the outset. Yes, it is so. But let us do not forget that Allah is always with those who are embracing all sorts of torturing for His sake and end of the day victory is for them. Allaah promises in the Qur’an as follows : “Allaah will not leave the believers in the state in which you are now, until He distinguishes the wicked from the good. Nor will Allaah disclose to you the secrets of the Ghayb (Unseen)” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:179] Where there is a test, definitely there is a victory, but the condition is sabr and perseverance. As the owner and the controller of the success and victory, Almighty Allah says: “And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Saabiroon (the patient). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say: ‘Truly, to Allaah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.’ They are those on whom are the Salawaat (i.e. who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and (they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones” [al-Baqarah 2:155-157] So Allaah tests His slaves, and He loves those who are patient, and gives them the glad tidings of Jannah (paradise). “Do you think that you will enter Paradise before Allaah tests those of you who fought (in His Cause) and (also) tests those who are As-Saabiroon (the patient)?” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:142] Allaah tests us, sometimes with calamities and sometimes with blessings, to show who is thankful and who is ungrateful, and who does obey and who does not, then He will reward or punish them on the Day of Resurrection. As Allah says in the Qura’n: “and We shall make a trial of you with evil and with good. And to Us you will be returned” [al-Anbiya’ 21:35] Testing is according to one’s faith; the most severely tested among mankind are the Prophets, then the next best and the next best. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When I fall ill, my pain is equivalent to the pain of two men among you.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5648). Allaah tests His slaves with different kinds of trials. Sometimes He tests them with calamities and tribulations to distinguish the believer from the disbeliever, the obedient from the disobedient, the grateful from the ungrateful. Sometimes He tests His slaves with calamities; when they commit sin, He punishes them with calamities so that they might come back to him, as He says:: “And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much” [al-Shoora 42:30] “And indeed We seized them with punishment, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke (Allaah) with submission to Him” [al-Mu’minoon 23:76] Allaah is merciful to His slaves; He sends repeated tribulations upon the ummah so that they may return and repent to Him, and give up that which Allaah has forbidden, and so that Allaah might forgive them. Allaah says: “Do they not see that they are tried every year once or twice but then they do not repent nor do they remember?)” [al-Tawbah 9:126] It is a part of the mercy of Allaah that disasters befall sinners in this world, so that their souls might be purified and they might come back to Allaah before they die: “And verily, We will make them taste of the near torment (i.e. the torment in the life of this world, i.e. disasters, calamities) prior to the supreme torment (in the Hereafter), in order that they may (repent and) return (i.e. accept Islam)” [al-Sajdah 32:21] Sometimes Allaah tests His slaves with calamities in order to raise them in status and to expiate for their sins, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “No misfortune or disease befalls a Muslim, no worry or grief or harm or distress – not even a thorn that pricks him – but Allaah will expiate for some of his sins because of that.” (Agreed upon. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5641) Therefore, test can come upon us (as believers) in the following two forms: a,. Calamities and torturing b. Blessings and amazing fortunes or glad tidings. In the face of each form of the test the role of believers should be as follows: 1. To return back to Allah and seek help through prayers (salaat) and patience. Especially making doa for those who are subject to dhulm and torture. 2. To increase the reliance on Allah and strengthen the faith in Allah that nothing on earth and heaven happens without the will and decree of Almighty Allah. 3. To accept the test as a decree or will of Allah and be happy with Allah’s will/decree. 4. To review the actions and programmes of life and see if there is any shortcomings or mistake and take action to improve the activities and programmes of life. 5. To repent for any mistakes, sins or shortcomings, seek forgiveness and ask for Allah’s help to refrain from sins, mistakes and shortcomings. May Allah accept all of our efforts for His cause and forgive us for our sins and shortcomings. May He stay close beside us with His blessings and barakah, ameen.
