I have long been a WWII buff and have volumes of material on the war itself, but in reading Bill OReillys Killing Patton, I am learning a great deal about the political aspects surrounding the final year of, and the months following the war. I have never been a big fan of FDR, who I have always considered the closest thing to a dictator America ever had, and until Obama, the closest thing to an outright socialist. After what I am now learning, I like him even less. Another figure I am coming to have a new impression of is Eisenhower. Although his reluctance to upset anyone at all is well documented, his outright capitulation to the communists during this period is disturbing. I never studied much about the OSS and its developer and first leader, Wild Bill Donovan, but I will now. If what I am reading is to be believed, he was an outright collaborater with the Soviets in many situations and sacraficed more than a few Americans to advance his career and agenda. Intersting reading.
