I have made this realization after my trip to Hong Kong a few - TopicsExpress

I have made this realization after my trip to Hong Kong a few months ago. Because of the differences in training, education, and the inverted triangle of the population, the elderly aged 60 and above have no choice but to work more because of the demands of this society (standard of living). In places such as Hong Kong, Singapore, etc most of the people in the bracket of 40 years old below are well educated and highly competitive therefore most of them, if not all are hired for office works. Most of the new companies wont employ older workers because they think that there is a higher cost in hiring older workers and that they are less productive and receptive to new ideas thus leaving them behind with all the manual labor. Sad but it is true and this is precisely what Sassen is trying to point out when he talked about polarization.
