I have many, many reasons why I prefer working for the state over private sector, and pay is one of them. Not that I get paid more or equally than/with private sector (ha, in this state? Hell no. I make like $20k less a year than I would be if I was working private sector). Benefits make up a large difference in the pay cut from private sector. But, I am definitely paid equally for my position. This is my "rank", this is my "time in service" and this is my pay, regardless of my gender. In the Seattle/Tacoma area, men working full time make an average of $16k more annually than women working the same jobs. (go.nationalpartnership.org/site/DocServer/Wage_Gap_Seattle.pdf)
