I have mixed feelings about this. Yes, we need to stop with technology once in a while, but I remember reading about how, after a series of child kidnappings, our culture has restricted the idea that children can be out and about on their own because they wont be protected. So social media blossomed because those children who grow up today (in a time where we dont want kids running around because something might happen to them) used the internet and technology to develop their own ways of meeting up with their friends. They created their own digital playgrounds, for lack of a better word. That isnt to say its a place thats any safer than them wandering the streets, but supposedly, its how theyve made the best of being cooped up. Theyre supposedly coping with not being able to meet up outside the house for hours on end, the way James Ellis suggests in this video. I think he also misses the point that so many of us are spread out after a certain time and we use social media to keep in contact with people we might otherwise never see again. Does anyone else have thoughts?
