I have nearly always traveled with a pet, (No, not my wife!) - TopicsExpress

I have nearly always traveled with a pet, (No, not my wife!) Usually a small dog. There has been a couple of times that Ive had to seek out emergency veterinary care. The last time was several years ago when my then one year old rat terrier, Bitzy, came back from a short exercise run in an open field. I noted that she seemed to have a bit of difficulty jumping into the truck. Upon inspection, I found that she had a pretty large gash ripped in her chest. It was late in the afternoon and I was traveling across Iowa on the back roads. Upon coming into the third town after the accident I caught a vet clinic open with the doctor just headed out. Bitzy was treated and the wound healed without a scar. The only thing that we could figure was that she had been running through the tall grass and ran head-on into the sharp pointed end of a fallen limb or something similar to that. The tip is this: If youll be traveling with animals, it might be prudent to have a list of emergency veterinary clinics in the area youll be in. This list is rather simple to get. Just google the area and veterinary. That should get you the info you need. I hope that you wont need the list, but it wont cost a dime to have it ready and it could ease an otherwise frantic rush to locate a doc for the smallest member of your family. Now, Enjoy! your pet.
