I have never in my life been this affected by a celebrity death. There are those on my feed that make light of the sorrow felt by such a loss. Why mourn an actors death by his own hand when there are real tragedies going on across the globe, they ask. Depression and mental illness are indiscriminate killers. No color, creed or socioeconomic background can exclude you from its grasp once it gets ahold of you. One can have all of the money and fame in the world, bring joy to millions of lives, and still be in constant anguish. Robin Williams was like the zany uncle that we all had and counted on to make us laugh and lift our spirits. He was the man that taught a nation of children to laugh, to crow, to fly. He taught us about love and how to cope with divorce. He taught us about wish fulfillment and itty bitty living spaces. He taught us about poetry and loyalty. And he taught us to never take ourselves too seriously. I only hope that his family and fans can find some comfort in his memory and body of work and that he can be remember for such and not how it ended.
