I have never really experienced serious brouhaha in trotro over increment in fares like today. From Tema station to Legon and back, it was as if the passengers planned it. Unfortunately on the part of the passengers, the drivers and their mates were well armed to to the tooth to face the passengers squarely. Each time a passenger joined the trotro and the mate said yesss!, the passenger asked how much? and the mate mentioned a figure, the passenger retorted and begun demanding explanation for such unprecedented high transport fares. The mates were tired of explaining to passengers and therefore decided to lessen their workload by presenting a printed copy of the old and new transport fares accurately reflecting the change to passengers. In this case, a passenger had only two options: you must know how to read or you keep quiet and pay the new fare. Today changed my perception about trotro mates. Every trotro mate can read very well when it comes to money. They are chartered accountants, chartered economists and professional mathematicians with specialty in calculus and quantitative methods. Eiiiish Ghana paaa this! Legon to Tema Station is now GHC1.80. Indeed, edey beee keke....
