I have not taught any Junior Achievement (JA) programs in a while - TopicsExpress

I have not taught any Junior Achievement (JA) programs in a while but this works. I used to teach ESIS (The Economics of Staying in School, grade 6-8). Looks like the programs have changed a bit but the foundation is so powerful we have to do this all around the world. My employers always sponsored us to go into schools for a day, all expenses paid with your salary too. You all have much that you can teach the kids so please do not hold back. There is a JA in Uganda but I would love to see a bigger impact from it than what is currently based in Kololo. Junior Achievement is it if we want to help our kids to become future leaders, rulers and business people. I am being serious in my posts today because we need action from all of us. --------------------------------- Economics for Success Inspiring Grade 8-10 Students to Stay in School and Plan for Success The transition from high school to post-secondary life can be jarring. Many students don’t feel prepared to handle the demands of university, a full-time job or living on their own. In Economics for Success, grade 8-10 students take a closer look at the advantages of staying in school, as well as learn what’s needed to succeed in today’s workforce. Volunteers from the local business community partner with classroom teachers to help students see the link between education and achieving their goals. During this in-class program, students use games and multimedia to: • Learn why it’s important to stay in school and explore several post-secondary options • Consider how today’s opportunities can lead to future success • Map their interests, skills and passions to possible careers • Develop valuable job searching skills including networking, volunteering, working with a mentor and interviewing • Create a budget to prepare for the financial reality of post-secondary life • Learn the importance of making ethical choices and how these choices can impact their employment opportunities • Understand that it takes planning to achieve their educational, life and career goals Students use the “Keep Your Balance” online tool to see how their lifestyle choices impact their budget and the environment. By the end of the program, students will learn how their choices can positively impact their future dreams and outcomes. This will help them set goals, seize opportunities, and create a future that fuels their passions. For more information about Economics for Success or to get involved, contact your local Junior Achievement of Canada office. ESIS: Economics for Success runs as a half day (morning) program at schools across Nova Scotia. JANS is able to reach close to 100% of all grade nine classes each year thanks to the commitment of over 1000 volunteers. Consider adopting a school with your colleagues! Join together and volunteer as a group. Select a school close to your workplace or in an area where you would like to see students receive JA programs. Then sign up as a group and deliver the program to ALL students at your adopted school. Its a fun way to team build and bring beneficial programs to deserving students. Contact your local program manager to choose your school now and plan for a fun time in the classroom. nova-scotia.jacan.org/program/economics-success
