I have noticed an increase in youth posting publicly to question the Churchs position on things like the 80/40 day churching period for mothers of girls and boys, the limitations on men and women receiving the Eucharist because of natural processes, female deacons, etc. It reminds me of something Jaroslav Pelikan once asked: [Are they] willing, despite the promise of Christ that the gates of hell would not prevail against the Church, to claim that the Church has been in error until they came along? What we desperately need is humility, even in the face of what we dont fully understand or agree with. Taking a few classes at a seminary and/or reading a Patristic quote in isolation do not make us theologians or more illumined than the traditional and continual witness of the Church which has lasted for thousands of years. Evagrius speaks the truth when he says, If you are a true theologian, you truly pray; if you truly pray, you are a true theologian. Humility is the answer.
