I have now read summaries of 6 different protocols for flag raising ceremonies, with a pretty wide variation in how they are carried out. Even the American Legion website only has the ceremonies for taking the flag down or retiring it. GRAH! Given that I will have girl scouts (not military) performing the ceremony... Do I have the caller dismiss them before the pledge? I was told by someone who should know that if they are the active color guard (not yet dismissed) they are not to salute/place hand on heart, yet all the girl scout ceremonies seem to have them dismissed after the pledge.
