I have partaken in the ALS ice challenge that you have no doubt - TopicsExpress

I have partaken in the ALS ice challenge that you have no doubt heard of by now. If youre none the wiser, however, ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Its a neurodegenerative disease thats also referred to as motor neurone disease (MND), Charcot disease, and, in the United States, Lou Gehrigs disease. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. The ALS ice challenge consists of dumping a bucket of ice water on your head - it was started in 2012 by Pete Frates, a man diagnosed with ALS in his twenties. Over $31.5 million has been raised so far in the name of charity. Id like to thank Amarbold Batzorig for asking me to partake in this challenge - Id also like to nominate Jordan Beebe, Vahni Bernard, and Michael Kinasiewicz to take the awareness raising act of dumping ice water on your heads. You have 24 hours to take the challenge, by way of recording it, or youre compelled to donate - the recommended amount is $100 but for teenagers like us that might be a stretch... Either way, if you can spare the money, please send some towards the ALS foundation at alsa.org/ Dont be discouraged, the act itself isnt that embarrassing when you remember that youre doing it for a good cause. And you get to nominate your friends and enemies to take a part of the challenge as well. Dont worry - you guys arent my enemies. And dont eat the ice. Apparently its bad for you. --- I used 3 bottles worth of water but the ice, being ice, is a bit harder to pinpoint with an exact amount. At least the footprint Im leaving in terms of water usage isnt as extravagant as others Ive seen. Have a good night everyone, and, nominees, you have 24 hours.
