I have read history literatures on how the catholic church believed that anything outside a bird that flies is evil,little wonder the wright brothers where snubbed by holy mother church.the catholic church also persecuted galileo galilae when he propounded that the earth is spherical and gave the radius as approximately 6400km.but with the passage of time the catholic church went through phases of reforms and certain wrongs where corrected,the latest was the plea by the holy father of blessed memory John Paul 2nd,who came out and apologised publicly for the numerous sins perpetrated by the catholic church back in the days.Today the catholic church with a population of 1.2billion people is a force for good around the world. This piece is not about the Holy Roman catholic church but about the terrorist attack carried out by an islamic terrorist group by name Al shabab in a mall in kenya.when i was a little boy in primary 3 or 4.i read about the great Mai of bornu,i read about Idris aloma of bornu,i read of Gandoki the father of Garba with his favourite quote that stuck in my psyche till date"i am Gandoki the father of Garba,i am Gandoki the war chief of muslims i live a charmed life".later in my post primary school we were told how mohamed with his men conquered the northern part of the country and how he was invited by people of oyo and kwara i.e the oyomessi to come and fight for them and that was the genesis of islam in the yoruba dominated western nigeria.As a child my macmillian reader was the spectacle through which i see the world,from my reader and with the pictures of Gandoki,garba,idris mai alooma and habama well poised on horse backs brandishing machetes and spears i deduced with my"little"brain that they are islamic faithfuls and at the same time violent set of people.i grew up trying to knock of that in built or say stereotypic believe from my psyche but it was hard no matter how i tried,it was in the bid to knock these believe that islam is a religion built and watered by violence that the 9/11/2001 attack in the US dawned on us.another islamic extremist group al quaeda claimed responsibility for that dastard act oct of genocide and crime against humanity,to give credence to my childhood stereotype that islam is built and waterf by violence,our own islmamic brother muttallab inspired by the evil genius osama boarded a plane on christmas day with the aim of blowing it to pieces with IED,s(improvised explosive devices).but fate played a fast one on him.to buttress my childhood believe our own locally made terror group"the boko poko!"(boko haram)has made violence,terror and acts that are roundly condemned by any sane person or persons their stock in trade.what happened on saturday in a mall in kenya is the last testament for me that islam is all about violence,terror and evil acts,just like Fela anikolapo kuti will put it,there regular trade marks are tears,sorrow and blood.i think its high time the world treat this villains who disguise as religious group with brut force,because thats who they are terrorist and violent people
