I have read the county government of Kakamega sugar industry task force report launched on Monday by the Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. This report indicates that weak legislations caused the current sugar crisis. The same report recomends weak legislations to be pased by our county assembly. How will creating too many bodies assist the already ICU patient? 1.Kakamega County Sugar Board 2.County sugarcane Dispute Resolution Tribunal 3.County Sugarcane Pricing and Transport Committee 4.County Ispectorate of Sugar Industry 5.County Agriculture Committee 6.Kakamega Sugarcane Cooperative Union 7.Institute for Sugar Research and Training 8.County Sugar Manufacturers Association 9.Association of Sugar Producing Counties of Kenya!! The task force gives the Governor a 40% appointment authority on most of the above bodies. What the task force did is just creating the former Kenya Sugar Board in Kakamega. Also the proposed Union will just be Mossaco with branches across the county. The first problem will be on electing people to the above bodies. As usual politics in the industry starts at this level?!! Wangas, Maramas, Isukhas, Batsotso etc will go for their own. Then the Governor will have his candidates. Mps ,Senator, Mcas and parties will have a field day.!! Ask me to revive this industry and i will tell you to wake up Dr.Ellon Wameyo from his grave.
