I have realised some people are confused about how I have slipped into Islam so comfortably. Being raised a Christian the first 18 years of my life gave my faith a strong platform to build from. Then for a few years I became a whore, before removing myself from what was a wildly enjoyable yet destructive path. I will never forget the lessons I was taught in the Church and at home. I think one thing that is overlooked when talking about Samoans, or Islanders in general, is the importance of spirituality in our culture. Not only did my family attend church every week, but we had choir practice every Saturday and family prayer every evening, which consisted of singing two hymns and my father leading a prayer. Thank you to everyone from EFKS Goodna and everyone I grew up with for assembling my moral compass.
