I have really been praying over the last 2 days because l have been so angry and hurt over events that transpired after the tragic event at HTs. l have dealt with hatred in my heart, but l know hatred builds walls instead of peace and that is not who l am. I feel as though my trust has been broken with some police and l can never depend on them for help. l have had to do a lot of soul searching, talking with friends who are in law enforcement and pray. l know that every police officer is not bad and l also know that in certain situations adrenaline is running high, but level heads has to prevail. Chaos and panic of some individuals with hot heads made closing difficult and certain individuals would not listen to me, my brother or staff. A few guys were exchanging words outside on the street as we were trying to get people in their cars. I heard someone saying they were going to get their guns out of their vehicles, l ran to a police officer and asked for help to calm people down and assist with getting them in their cars because people were angry over what happened next door. He told me to shut up and l said they are saying they have guns in their cars can some of you help before more violence take place. The Galveston Police officer pushed me in my chest very hard and l asked him why did he do that because l didnt do anything. Another said handcuff her and put her in the car she is going to jail. l asked for what, what did l do? He grabbed me by my arm pushed me on the hood of a car and handcuffed me while another pointed his rifle in my face. People were asking them why were they doing that when l was asking for help. This was all Galveston PD! Once he got me in the car, l heard my brother asking where is my sister and the officer said l grabbed his arm and he arrested me, l was going to jail. l never touched him or got close enough to touch him and l have enough sense and training not to. l told them where l worked and l was in law enforcement and the one with the rifle on me said, well you just lost your job. really? Once in the car l heard other officers, l think Texas City and l think one of his supervisors tell him to let me go because l didnt do anything l was asking for help. He came back in the car and said , l understand you were trying to help and get help. l will take the cuffs off of you and let you out.....That is why lm having serious issues right about now. l have NEVER EVER experienced that and even after explaining l was treated so cruel. He was very nice to me in the end, but inside l was mad as hell, but l kept my composure because l know the pen can be mightier then the sword!! NO APOLOGY WILL BE ACCEPTED BECAUSE IT WAS WRONG ON EVERY LEVEL. IF YOU CANT GO TO THE POLICE AND ASK TO CALM A SITUATION THEN WHO CAN YOU GO TO.! IT IS TIME TO WAKE UP PEOPLE AND LETS WORK ON OUR IN HOUSE RACE RELATIONS. THANKS TO THE OFFICERS WHO KNEW I DID NOTHING WRONG AND TOLD HIM TO TAKE THE CUFFS OFF AND LET ME OUT OF THAT CAR! Effective communication is the key to any relationship with a person or a group of people. If one side thinks because he or she has all of the power because of an authoritative role and will NOT LISTEN but act, then the battle has already been lost! No person is above listening, because listening and understanding is the first step to how a person will act or react to a specific situation.
