I have really enjoyed the 100-year-old photos of Germanys plunge into the First World War posted by my favorite German historian (and Dittes cousin), Götz Hartmann. Im not sure if hes seen this source, a history of the Dittes Familienstadt, Diedelsheim. The photos show the young men from the village who didnt return, including 11 Ditteses. The record states that 52 Diedelsheimers died in the war, and 13 were POWs. My great-grandfather had already emigrated to the United States by the time the war started (1898). But family from Ulm on my great-grandmothers side did fight for the German Army in that war. Thanks for the posts, Götz!
