I have returned from Vanderbilt with mix reviews LOL. Dr Phillips - TopicsExpress

I have returned from Vanderbilt with mix reviews LOL. Dr Phillips is the Director of the Division of Medical Genetics and Genomic Medicine and he is who I had my appointment with today. It was basically a review of tests results he had received from all the testings he ordered. Blood work shows that my calcium is still on the low side. Dr. Potter increased my calcium intake to 2000 mg daily along with my calcitriol. My parathyroid glands are basically 95% dead which means any calcium intake has to be in the form of pills for my body to work correctly because without this I would have no calcium. Dr. Phillips stated their greatest concern currently is the size of my kidneys versus the amount of calcium I may have to take in the future so my labs will be ok. He is concerned that the greater calcium could cause kidney stones. The size of my kidney fall within the normal range however, it is at the lowest point before being called abnormally small. After taken the antibiotic that got me so sick Fri and Sat he urged me not to take any medicine in the future which contradicts calcium in any shape or form. He placed me on a low sodium, low protein diet and wants me to have my creatinine level tested on a regular basis to make certain my kidneys are still functioning as they should. Right now there is not a problem, and may never be in the future, but since the Barakat Syndrome can cause end stage renal problems I think he just wants to cover the bases now to make sure we are aware and watching my creatinine levels. Our bodies are wonderfully made and I am still learning how everything interconnects to give us the health we have. Because I have had a life long low calcium situation my brain told my bones and teeth to release calcium to keep my muscles and etc working. I currently have osteoporosis and he wants me to start taking meds now that will hopefully maintain the bone density I have now. I will have to get that script from Dr. Potter my primary endocrinologist at our next appointment next month at Vandy. I probably would have this anyway due to my age, my occupation and etc but it is exaggerated in my case because of the Barakat Syndrome. All in all good reports, so thank you for your prayers in the past for me, the only thing he did tell me was to listen to my body and if my energy level is low wait until I feel better to do yard work etc. So I guess I need to put my hearing aides on to make sure that I hear my body talking to me LOL
