I have seen a lot of videos posted recently concerning the brutal use of force by militarized police men & women. A lot of thought over the past few months has brought me to a place of honesty with this situation. We, as a free people who can still express our opinion and thought, have chosen a road not of self management and personal responsibility but of nanny state assistance to deal with every problem at our front door. These police are not trained in a way that respects the rights of the individual first - they need to keep themselves safe before they make anyone else safe. Why does anyone arm themselves with so many brutal tools for self-defense? Probably because they are encountering a pubic that is violent minded, in one form or another intoxicated on some substance and have to deal with an ever erratic handful of folks who do actually carry arms. It is a call and response reverberating from our increasingly violent nature. Why do we fight ourselves? These cops are our brothers and sisters who have taken on a day and night job that is more danger than any of us would want to take on for a very basic living wage. It is our responsibility to conduct ourselves within the agreements of society and stop re-writing the laws and regulations (in our minds) for our own benefit/advantage. We need to stop pushing the boundaries of the common good and stop being the thief, the robber, the abuser, the glutton, the vengeful and the disenfranchised - these lifestyles command the creation of regulatory forces. Im not saying that the over-policing of our country is a good thing. Im for a force that protects and serves - not enforces law that is unjustly implemented. We forget that this country was forged in the fires of dissonance and hammered true by the many hands of those who gave up their oppressed pasts for freedom from tyranny. Has that sacrifice been forgotten? Do we really want to go back through the many centuries of fighting only to find ourselves at the same place - protecting our inalienable rights and freedom at the cost of our posterity and sovereignty? Are we in a collective amnesia? Do we want to continue giving the power of governance and strength to those who are out to sell our country away to the highest bidder and the firmest with their management or are we going to take on the responsibility of governing ourselves and managing our daily assets for the better of ourselves and our communities? Should we be the ones who better the future through real action - the action of willful awareness and impeccable intention. Cops will look like military and will enforce unjust laws so long as we continue to neglect ourselves, our communities and the cries for change in the government that WE create and own. We need to OWN OUR CHOICES. WE REAP WHAT WE SOW. STOP HURTING, START TALKING annnnnd MAKE A CHANGE. no more blaming the cops.
