I have sent the following letter to all Alaskan Senate, Congressional and Lead House Representatives. This issue needs to be addressed: Dear Congressman Young, What are you doing to get the thousands and thousands of uninsured Alaskans affordable health insurance? Alaskas republican leadership refused to take advantage of the Federal Medicaid expansion program and refused to set up its own in-house health insurance pool. This has caused a shameful gap in the mandated ACA that affects only lower wage earners. It will cause thousands of Alaskans to go uninsured, and sadly penalized for being just that, poor. Ridiculous, too poor for Federal Tax Credits but too rich for Medicaid?? Id laugh if it wasnt so sad! My daughter falls into that gap. She makes a measly $10,000/year, thats a little over $800/month. The LEAST expensive plan in the federal health insurance pool for her is over $250/month. How is she expected to pay for rent, fuel, utilities, FOOD? She has no choice but to remain UNINSURED and have her income penalized 1% annually. That is shameful! We need Medicaid expansion to catch the less fortunate! You were voted to office by Alaskans that believe in you, please do not fail in your responsibility to our State and its people. Respectfully yours, Belinda Travers I sent this to our President. Dear Mr. President; I am a proponent of the ACA however there has been a very serious flaw in the conception of this law; it was written with fingers crossed, with a HOPE that the republican governed states would jump on board and expand their medicaid program; they are REPUBLICANS. Last election, I put my faith in you and voted for the first time in 30 years BLUE. I pose this question to you as well; Mr. President, what are you doing to help insure the 5 million Americans who cannot afford personal health insurance purely because they are less fortunate, low wage earners BUT working americans that have fallen through the health care GAP?
