I have shamelessly plagiarized the following from the nytimes for the enlightenment of us all: AND FINALLY … This date in 1998 was a bittersweet one in the cultural history of New York City: “Seinfeld” broadcast its last episode. The finale finds Jerry and friends charged with “criminal indifference” in a small town in Massachusetts after they stand by and gawk at a carjacking. They are dubbed “The New York Four,” convicted of “selfishness, self-absorption and greed,” and hauled off to jail. More than 76 million viewers tuned in. One wrote on a message board, “By jailing the New York four, Jerry Seinfeld made the statement that all of us, after all these years of finding folly in the misadventures of the characters, are just as guilty as them.” Sixteen years later, the “Seinfeld” rerun era shows no sign of fading.
