I have so many ideas for witty shirts, and I have access to some very talented designers. I could provision a Magento store that looked like a million bucks and automate 95% of the process. I could set up the social push and do better than just about anyone else, and as good as the existing pro sites. Maybe even better. I could do all of the tech in a weekend and have it executing in less than a week. And I have access to a number of niche markets, right now, that could easily bootstrap such a business. But like most people in my position, I have no way to actually produce the shirts in the appropriate metrics without going the traditional quantity-500-guess-the-sizes-and-shelve-the-inventory route that requires a bunch of up-front money and a bunch of risk, not to mention the time to manage the inventory. Print on demand quality is terrible and the margin is laughable. Buying my own digital printer is expensive and a full-time job to produce on demand. But sourcing from a screen run is, as above, difficult and risky. There is no middle-ground of which Im aware. Pity that having all of the components for a decent nerd apparel/swa business in place minus the ONE critical component is the lay of the land.
