I have so many lifters on my friends list, that my wall is generally filled each day with lifting vids. Most days its of guys hitting PRs, and regardless of the weight on the bar I still think its great to see. Lifting is such an individual journey. It means something different to each person, and represents something different to everyone. Whether its the first time benching a plate on each side, or hitting that first 405 or 500 bench, it always feels the same. Its still a milestone. It matters to each of us in our own way because the effort was ours, and the investment was made by us alone. And it may in fact represent more than just weight on the bar. Yes, lifting is just a hobby. But hobbies can be passions and passions carry an emotional investment. May sound silly to some, but when you work your ass off day in and day out for weeks and months and years on end to bring something to fruition it has a personal value that is meaningful, and priceless. And it gets to be ours. We dont have to share it with anyone. Its not like saving up all summer for that car that your best friend farts in. People often talk about the journey well, thats what it is. You dont have to be a world record holder to have a significant journey. You just have to continue walking the path.
