“I have some ‘good news’ and some ‘bad news,’ which one - TopicsExpress

“I have some ‘good news’ and some ‘bad news,’ which one do you want to hear first?” What order do prefer to hear these two messages? I always want to hear the bad news first; and though I do not like and it hurts, I know that I must face it and accept it. But the good news is that there is indeed good news that follows the bad news. Hearing the good news second means that the ending of the story can be happy. It means the bad news is not final and the good news will be enduring. God uses messengers, the prophets, to deliver the bad news of His judgment over sin; but then they also brought with them the good news of God’s call for them to return and receive his forgiveness and love. This week we will see the miracles and the messages of God delivered through His prophets. In these mighty events we find great truth, hope, and solace for our lives. God passionately loves His people; God passionately loves us; God passionately love you, more than you fathom. No matter how bad the news of your life gets, God’s good news is always greater. ***** Read Chapter 15 of The Story: God’s Messengers, and answer the following questions to help you better understand this week’s message: • What do you learn about faith from Elijah’s ups (victory over the prophets of Baal, pp 204-205) and his downs (depression in the desert, pp 206-207)? • When Elijah was hiding in fear in a cave, God spoke to him in a gentle whisper (p 207). Why do you think God spoke to him in this way? What steps can you take to hear God’s gentle voice? • What do the words of Amos (pp 213 - 215) and Hosea (pp 215 – 217) teach us about the character of God and the good things He longs to give you and do for you? What conditions does God place for us to receive these blessings?
