I have struggled with an addiction and although people love to - TopicsExpress

I have struggled with an addiction and although people love to tell me its not a bad addiction the truth is that an addiction is an addiction even if its a socially accepted addiction (Ill tell you what it is in a sec..). Anything can become an addiction if we arent aware of it. Any addiction has a big impact on our life because our thoughts and actions become centered around meeting that need. Addictions distract us from our relationship with God and they keep us in a vicious cycle. The cool part is God can break our addictions when we truly surrender them and turn them over. We are actually designed to be addicted but we are designed to be addicted to GOD, not to anything of this world. God asks us (for our best good) to love Him with our whole heart. Any addiction is putting something above the love of God and any addiction can be broken by putting God first. When we go to God first instead of whatever the addiction is God can break the cycle that we are unable to break ourselves without just replacing it with another addiction. God fills us up with His love so we dont feel the need for whatever we were running to. So my addiction has been #1 coffee #2 sugar. These 2 addictions have had me do the dumbest things like stand in line for 30 min at starbucks, stay up all night because I ate sugar or drank coffee too late, be late for an appointment because I have to run and get coffee or sugar... I think you get the point. Addictions are a lame substitute for the love God wants to pour on us by going to Him first. We all crave Gods love but when we try to find it in anything outside of Him we get caught in a viscous cycle that will only leave us depleted and defeated. Thank you God that we can come to you first!
