I have to admit that I had no idea who actress Molly Glynn was until I read the very sad story of her death. Glynn -- by all accounts a loving wife and mother -- was riding her bicycle in a park on Friday with her husband when a freak storm came up. The couple headed for cover, but the storm toppled a tree which hit her. She died in a hospital on Saturday. My heart goes out to everyone who was touched by her death. I remember when my beautiful cousin Jodi was killed in an unusual accident in 1995, leaving behind two beautiful kids and a shocked and grieving family. Another story -- On I-5 near mile marker 48 in Oregon, there is a small white cross with the name Marcia Jean White on it. I never knew her, but I remember the day in 2002 when she died. A trucker about five miles ahead of her was stung by a bee. He swerved into the concrete median, where his truck caught fire. He escaped, but rush hour traffic backed up quickly. Five miles back, Marcia White apparently didnt see the truck in front of her stop, until it was too late. I was a few hundred yards behind her, and stood next to my stopped car on the freeway for nearly an hour while police dealt with the accidents and sad death all caused by a bee five miles away. Nobody can anticipate these sorts of tragedies. But there is an important lesson to be learned. Life can be remarkably fragile. Live every moment as though you will never have another. Love your friends and family with reckless abandon. Make the preparations for the future that you must, and enjoy pursuing your goals, but never at the expense of being absolutely in the one and only moment you know you have. Forgive unconditionally and with joy. Even if relationships dont go back to where they were, resist holding onto the twin cancers of anger and resentment that only diminish your spirit. And my personal prayer for you is this: Know that there is a loving God who wants to laugh and cry with you in all the moments, big and small. I wish you joy and love.
