I have to again sing Ellies praises - this dog was 2 hours away from euthanasia when I picked her up from the shelter. She had reacted when the staff went to vaccinate her and her time was up; I understood and I picked her up late in the day on Halloween, 2011. Ellie has her lines in the sand when it comes to messing with her (nail clipping and teeth brushing, specifically!) but is now pretty much an easy keeper. She had been found stray in Castroville; I have no idea what her background was before she ended up at the shelter. I cannot say enough good things about this little terrier-mix. We love her SO much. She is so good with the other dogs - I will always remember how Emmy would stumble into Ellie and, sometimes, end up going under Ellie like a doggy bridge. Ellie would just stand there and look at her, I imagined that Ellie was wondering what in the heck was up with that dog? Shes not all that fond of people that she doesnt know well but she is fine with staying in the background and letting Maxwell soak up all of that attention. She is barky when on a leash and we meet another dog but bring that foster dog home and plop him or her in the backyard and Ellie is a perfect foster sister. My heart aches when I think of how close she came to her death. I am so grateful that I had met her previously and taken an interest in her and that the shelter gave me the option of coming to get her. I so wish there was a way to save more dogs like Ellie, who just need some time and patience to blossom. I know that they usually dont make it. We are so glad youre part of the pack, Ellie Mae!!!
