I have to give credit for my writing prowess to my high school - TopicsExpress

I have to give credit for my writing prowess to my high school English teacher, Shirley Skufca Hickman. A published writer herself, she is the epitome of the beloved teacher who listened and taught and inspired. She encouraged my writing, critiqued my poetry, pushed me to expand out of my comfort zone, and even took me to a weekly writers group and hired me as a proofreader to nurture a budding talent. Then, after she had done all that, and I had outgrown my school years, she became my mentor and my friend. It is her dear voice I hear when I self-edit my writings or try to push through a writers block, and every time I finish a piece, whether it is short story, poem or profile article, she is one of the people whose approval I would hope to gain. And, because of her, I know that a lot is two words... she was going to get that through our thick little high school skulls or die trying! Thanks a lot, Mrs. Hickman, for all your dedication and for all your inspiration.
