I have to say I have often been surprised by the sisterhood & support that the female musicians/singers on the Gold Coast constantly show to each other. Always speaking highly of each other in an industry that should make us compete against one another. Always welcoming a soul sista to sing along at a casual pub gig, filling in for each other when someones sick or double booked and excited to catch up if we ever get a simultaneous night off and end up in the same place! However, last night I met a GC girl that did not share this same mantra and it literally gobsmacked me. The owner of a venue I sing at regularly asked me to sing a song I am renowned for singing when it started and pushed me to the stage area, I didnt feel like singing but bashfully said to the female vocalist (who knows me as a singer) Ill just sing the BVs and smiled at her.. To which she snarled get away from the stage & screwed up her face like a high school mean girl. Lets see how many gigs that attitude gets you sweetheart. By the way, unless you own the venue its not your stage its our stage, so respect the people you share it with that keep the venue supporting the notion of live music on all the other nights of the week. The owner of the venue and I laughed about it for the rest of the night.. But it just made me realise how lucky I am to have so many beautiful singing sisters and the dearest friends in my life. Thank you lovelies. Theres no room for mean girls in our singing sisterhood. .
