I have two girls. S is 5yo and A is 14 mo. S still doesnt go to sleep by herself; she needs dad or mum to lay down next to her and wait till shes asleep which takes up to an hour some times. Is it normal? She was always bf to sleep and before baby was born I started to teach her to fall asleep without the breast. Currently my husband puts her to sleep while I put baby down as well also by nursing her. I am wondering if I am msking a mistake with her and will have in the future a child who also doesnt go to sleep easily. I follow attachment parenting techniques. Thanks. Pinky says: You have wonderfully lucky children. Its perfectly normal for children to need parenting sleep , although some children need less help, most little ones sleep far more soundly with fewer fears when they are cuddled to sleep. This connection helps them balance their body chemistry - release oxytocin which helps them calm and self regulate. Often bright little kids find it difficult to switch off their busy brains, especially as they are starting new activities like starting school etc. You may like to have a look at meditations by Maureen Garth, these are lovely story books that help children relax and sleep more easily. Try and see this pillow talk and cuddles as an investment in your relationship with your girls. https://shop.abc.net.au/t/artists/maureen-garth
