Ironwood Youth Drama Club To Receive $25,000 Grant Courtesy of State Farm Insurance Neighborhood Assist, Area Voters. Ironwood one of 40 communities nationwide to benefit from such a grant. YOUTH DRAMA CLUB Location: Ironwood,MI, MI Category: Education Submitted by: Bruce Greenhill, Organization:Ironwood Theatre, Inc. HOW WOULD YOU USE THE $25,000 TO ADDRESS AN UNMET NEED IN YOUR COMMUNITY? For the Youth Drama Club to grow, significant expenditures are necessary. Funding from this grant will enable the purchase of scripts, sets, costumes, payment of license fees, theatre fees, utilities, technical support and the development of publicity and promotional materials. Additionally, preliminary discussions have resulted in our goal to prepare curriculum, coded to state educational standards. Part of the grant would be used to cover the related expense. This will enable students to pursue their passion while earning school credit for their participation. The grant will also underwrite the cost of bringing youth-targeted performers to the Ironwood stage. In addition to offering the opportunity for active participation from young actors, directors and technicians, we will also build youth audiences, thereby creating a broader appreciation for the performing arts and guaranteeing their future in our community. HOW MUCH OF A LASTING IMPACT ON YOUR COMMUNITY WILL YOUR CAUSE HAVE? Ironwood has a rich and proud theatre history. In addition to the Historic Ironwood Theatre, the town also boasts an amateur theatre production company - Theatre North. Our pilot program was so successful that if sufficient funds for operating costs can be generated, many additional partners - including Theatre North, the schools, and a number of individuals experienced in various aspects of theatre production, stand ready to join in and support the endeavor. Students who participated in the pilot spoke of their excitement at acquiring new skills, and of the growth in confidence they experienced. Perhaps equally important were the positive comments we heard about the opportunity to work with students from other schools and the new friendships that were formed as a result of their working closely together on the productions. Expansion of the program will expose even more students to those growth opportunities!
