I havent much to say on the Rice/Peterson controversies. Right is right; wrong will never be right. Those convinced as I am that what these men did is a crime need not my words; those unconvinced will not be swayed by any number of pixels. However, one argument I will not tolerate is, We need to reserve judgment until the facts are known. Bullshit. Rice punched another human in the face. That is wrong. I dont need a jury to convict or acquit before I can render my own judgment. Peterson beat a four year old boy multiple times with a switch. The marks refused to disappear for several weeks. That is wrong. For the Vikings to say, Were going to let due process run its course is tantamount to saying: by February we should have been able to get enough yards out of Peterson to give a damn. There are many ways to stifle discourse. One is to claim not to politicize the issue. As if merely talking about something politicizes what is already political. The other is to claim we do not know all the facts. By the time all the facts are known, the discussion is moot. We will never know all the facts. Ever. I may need to retract my opinion in light of future facts. I doubt it. What I know now is enough: Rice punched his fiance. Peterson repeatedly beat an innocent boy with a stick. And the Vikings and NFL are more concerned about yards and wins and seasons, than either. CSG
