I havent read this book, but I may have to put it on the list. Accidental plagiarism is my biggest fear. Ill tell you right up front I know for a fact if I have any skill whatsoever Im derivative of at least 3-4 authors I grew up reading (James Crumley, James Lee Burke, Robert Crais), and will be racked with doubt and fear when I reread their books, worried I drew more than influence from them in the drunken haze I was in for my first couple books. I honestly dont believe I have, but I worry. I had a line about the Trinity River being a dirty vein that split Dallas in two in prologue of book 2, for years in drafts, before I reread Harry Hunsickers Still River ( protagonist uses a classic Browning High Power and Seecamp .32 combo, you should totally check it out) and saw it there. I try not to worry about it, because all poets are thieves, and we call come from somewhere, and if you worry about the dumb shit youll stall out, plateau, and never move forward. Thats my whole purpose in life right now, keeping my head down, focusing, and plodding forward.
