I havent written anything on my Facebook account recently because (1) I didnt have the energy to and (2) others have already shared the news to most of my social networks. But I do realize its the kind of thing that usually qualifies for Update status! Double bypass heart surgery was successful on Friday, I came home Monday, and now comes the long process of recovery. I have no family history of heart disease and all the typical causes (smoking, drinking, diabetes, etc.) dont relate to me. Maybe time will tell about how one artery was 80% blocked and another 70% and another 50%. And it may be my fault. Well see. But the Bible is clear: Sometimes we dont get what we deserve in life and sometimes we get what we dont deserve. We exalt in his mercy and we rejoice in his grace. Cause and effect in life is not always what we might imagine. . . . lest we boast . . . lest we take too much credit . . . lest we beat ourselves up with self-condemnation . . . lest we not live by grace through faith. We have much that is clear - Jesus - and we have much that is mystery - why eating the right things and exercising gets you clogged arteries and nasty surgery. But Im not in charge. A loving God ultimately is!
