I haven’t participated in any social network challenges before, - TopicsExpress

I haven’t participated in any social network challenges before, including world wide popular ice bucket madness. But I could not stand the call from Marek Kusmin. So 10 most memorable books I had a honour to experience are (with no particular order): * “Old Estonian Fairy-Tales” - Friedrich Kreutzwald. Probably the first book I can remember. My parents read those dark and surrealistic stories for me before going to sleep. They were unlike any other stories i heard in my childhood, scary but at the same time attractive. The illustrations were insane, monsters eating people, gloomy landscapes and dark skies, most of them were dated 1945-1946 the post WW2 period of depression. I realise now that these stories influenced my way of world perception. Among Pelevin’s short stories this one is the best, it is full of the own kind of atmosphere. It covers the transition of the soviet society from cold war euphoria to Perestroika period and the collapse of the ‘90s. I really love the Pelevin’s surrealistic style of story telling. * “Introduction to Psychoanalysis” - Sigmund Freud. Among other Freud’s books this one is the easiest to read as it is meant for the students. Modern psycology is mostly based on his ideas so it was worth to read the original. I read these anti utopias almost at the same time. They really represent the direction of modern society evolution. Despite the common opinion that books predictions were wrong, I do believe that it is just a matter of time. The first book of the popular Russian “Metro” franchise and the only one worth reading. The book has quite deep view on the modern Russian society, combined with dark post soviet cyber punk atmosphere. * “The Satanic Bible” - Anton LaVey. In my teenage years I was desperately searching for the ultimate truth and this book cought my attention. Despite the name the book mostly tells about modern egoistic principles of western society. I read this book twice, first time when I was 16 and some years later. On the second time it seemed immature, but it still influenced me. * “Perfume” - Patrick Süskind. This one became very personal for me, I have always been sensitive to smells and I thought that there is something wrong with me. This book made me feel comfortable and get on with my smell sensitivity. This literature classic provoked alot of new thought in my head and it still does every time I think of it. * “One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest” - Ken Kesey. Also one of the classics that come to my head over and over again. There is no point to describe this book, it has so many different sides for me it is a surrealistic experience with a lot of interesting social and historical references. I am challenging Jaanus Krevald, Anton Keks, Xenia Lexx Brainer, Vladimir Funtikov, Perfekt Sin, Art Artjom, Krete Beljaev, Anders Ständ, Oljah Owljah Advena, Olga Jazepova, Masha Maria, Natalja Keks and Alex Chekatovsky
