I heard on the news recently that our locality is now being targeted by professional criminals ... today I read elsewhere that the local council is considering the introduction of a neighbourhood watch system in Attard. Well, one thing which has always struck me here is the fact that there is no sense of neighbourliness in the village ... five years on I still dont know who lives in my area, what my neighbours names are, and so on. Everybody is busy minding his own business. Nothing wrong with that - however in the light of this surge in criminality, I think we do need to start minding a bit more who the people who frequent our streets are,we do need to start watching out especially for old neighbours who may be living alone, noticing which cars belong to neighbours, and which cars or characters in the neighbourhood seem suspicious, especially if they seem to be lurking around, with nowhere specific to go to. It cant be that nobody has seen or heard anything in this regard. When we first moved here and we put up our names (different surnames) on the letterbox, within two weeks we found an anonymous letter from someone urging us not to continue living in sin (I kept my surname when I got married :-). So how can it be that while there are people who are mindful of such trivialities, crime or an attempt at crime is going on unnoticed?
